Mens 2nd XI Finish Season in 4th and Other Results

With the end of the 23/24 season drawing near all of our teams are looking to secure valuable points and league positions. Our Mens 2nd XI finished their season this week, while our other three teams have just a few games left.

Our Ladies 1st XI, who are currently sitting in 5th place had a home game this week against Harborne 4 who sit in 10th place in the league. With their captain M. Webb away this week the game came at a tricky time for COB, and Harborne who are pushing to stay in the league came into this game strong and with a lot attacking threat. This proved too much for COB this week with Harborne scoring 4 goals and our Ladies 1st XI struggling to get a goal, the game ended 4-0.

Our Mens 1st XI were away this week to West Bromwich 1. After securing their place in the the Division 6 South West league last week with a great win, turning around a tough season with a geat mid-season spell our Mens 1st XI went into this week on a high, a well earned high. However this game would prove hard with West Bromwich showing their skill and attacking threat. COB did manage to put one past West Bromwich with a goal from A. Makepeace, but it wasn't enough and West Bromwich put three past COB. Ending the game 3-1. Our Mens 1st XI have two more goals to possibly pinch 8th place, but at the very least secure 9th place.

Our Mens 2nd XI had a long drive away to Stourport 6 this week. This was a top tier clash, with COB chasing third place and Stourport dominating second place this season, only losing once all season to the league leaders, this was going to be a thriller. The Mens 2nd XI came into this game confident but aware of the task ahead of them, a task made tougher went starting the game with just 9 until late arrivals could join. Both teams started equally with high quality play and passing across the park. Midway through the first half Stourport got a good goal. Ending the half 1-0 our Mens 2nd XI felt that they could get something from the game. And this confidence paid off with some excellent passing leading to R. Stanley at the top of the D to fire one back, 1-1. This good COB attacking led to an almost identical second goal with R. Stanley again firing in another powerful shot. The game went back and fourth for the of the game with chances for COB to get a third but always came painfully close. It sat at 2-1 until the last 30 seconds where Stourport got a short corner and in the final play of the game made it 2-2. Heartbreak for the Mens 2nd XI. But despite this can be extremely happy with not just this performance but a great season ending in 4th place!! The goal for next season, promotion.

Our Ladies 2nd XI had a midweek game this week, on a cold wet Thursday evening they faced Harborne 5. With the Ladies 2nd XI sitting 9th and Harborne 5th XI sitting 10th this was a clash that couldn't be more evenly matched. The game played out that way with it being a back and forth the whole way, two great goals from S. Field were matched by two goals for Harborne. The game did end 2-2 and the Ladies 2nd XI can take away from it a great performance with confidence to go into their last games with the possibility to go 8th, which would be an amazing result for this season.
