Great Ladies Win & Mixed Fortunes For The Mens

Our Ladies 1st XI had a long drive away to Tenbury Ladies 1 who currently sit 10th. With COB in 5th, and very close to 4th in the league this was a game they would of wanted to win, especially to shake off last weeks defeat. The game would not disappoint with plenty of goals, something that all of the ladies XI games have had in common in recent games. This week the ladies played a strong side and got five goals between 4 players, just showing the depth of our womans goal scoring threat. Emily. S with two great goals. Cully. M with a goal, and a goal for Leona. B and Josie. L as well. A solid 5-2 victory away from home. With a welcome two week break now, the ladies 1st XI will next play 3rd in the league Wrye Forest 1st XI.

Our Mens 1st XI were in for a tough afternoon against their visitors, Bournville 2nd XI.However, to their credit they did begin brightly enough with perhaps the better of the early exchanges and creating a few chances. Bournville soon found their feet and worked their way into the game. A smart move led to a good goal to give them an early lead. The visitors continued to look dangerous each time they progressed forward. On a breakout from defence Bournville hit a long ball forward into the D. No-one was able to cut it out. The hopeful ball forward found an alert forward who got a touch on the ball, enough to divert it past Neal into the goal. This was enough to give the visitors a 2-0 lead at the interval.

The second half saw COB make a positive start, but Bournville were able to mop up any serious threats. At half time the home side had made a couple of positional adjustments which helped for a while. Increasingly, Bournville continued their threat, a cross from the right found a forward at the head of the D. His shot on goal was partly saved but found its way into the goal. CoB’s heads seemed to drop even further and Bournville claimed the three points, leaving CoB still in the danger zone.

Our Mens 2nd XI looked to have an interesting encounter. The visitors, Old Silhilians 5th XI in 3rd place and the Home side in 4th. Right from the start COB showed their intentions, surging forward. Their positive efforts earned a short corner. The ball came out to Stan whose shot on target deflected off a defender’s stick into the goal for an early lead. The goal timed at 2 minutes.Old Sils to their credit, scored a cracking goal of their own to even things up after 17 minutes. A reverse shot on goal glanced off the cross-bar into the goal. Both teams were enjoying periods of good positive play. Jack saving his team on several occasions with some great goalkeeping..

The second half proved to be pretty even at times with both teams showing their worth. Near the end (30mins or so) Old Sils grabbed the lead courtesy of a short corner. Not to be outdone, CoB kept at it to get back into the game. Right on the whistle, the lively Kamran finished off a good move down the left to ensure his team earned a deserved share of the spoils. Once again, a generally positive performance from the team, without really being at their very best. With just three games left, whatever happens, the team will be able to reflect on a job well done.
